A still from "Whooping Cough"

“Whooping Cough” a powerful short film helmed by Reza Tofiqjoo both as producer and director, was released as the eleventh installment on the Seven Skies YouTube channel.

Set against the backdrop of the Iran-South Korea football match, the narrative centers around a father who works as a sports photographer. On this fateful night, he discovers that his child is unwell. As they rush the child to the doctor, they learn of the diagnosis: whooping cough. This revelation sets off a series of events that strain the fabric of their family dynamics, unraveling hidden tensions and bringing long-buried issues to the surface.

“I got the idea from a true, personal experience,” Tofighjoo explains. “My son was one year old when he was misdiagnosed with whooping cough by an irresponsible doctor. It was too much to take in. But it was just a normal flu, nobody gets whooping cough anymore. But then I kept picturing how it would have turned out for us if that had really been the case for my son, and so, the idea of the film slowly got developed.”

Starring in pivotal roles are Iranian actors Shabnam Moghaddami and Kourosh Tahami, who deliver compelling performances that capture the emotional depth and turmoil faced by their characters in the face of adversity.
