While many people mistakenly think of Lor Girl as the very first Iranian film, this film was in fact the first Iranian sound film, with Abi and Rabi being the first film ever that was made in Iran, which was a silent film.
Lor Girl was produced by Sagar Movietone (Mumbai, India), with Ardeshir Irani as the producer and Abdolhossein Sepanta as both screenwriter and director.
In the film, Sepanta himself starred alongside Roohangiz Saminejad, Hadi Shirazi, and Sohrab Puri. The filming took seven months, and it premiered on November 21, 1933, at the Didban (formerly called Mayak) and Sepah cinemas on Lalehzar Street, Tehran. At the time, Iranians mostly went to the cinema to watch short European comedies and political animations. The screening of this film contributed to the flourishing of Iran’s emerging film industry.
However, one of the contradictions in the film was Saminejad’s strong Kermani accent, which clashed with her character’s identity as a Lor woman. Nevertheless, compared to the other actors who spoke Persian with an Indian accent, audiences accepted her speech and welcomed her performance.
The film is in black and white and tells the story of Jafar and Golnar, whose growing affection for one another leads to the eradication of evil and crime among the people of a region.
Lor girl . Is the symbol of old Iranian and woman’s and culture’s.
